WP4. CrIS and OMI/TROPOMI data for inferring isoprene fluxes in the Tropics

Duration
  • Start: M36
  • End: M48
Tasks
  • T4.1 CrIS-based isoprene emissions (M36=>M42, 5 PM).
    Derive top-down isoprene fluxes with the adjoint of MAGRITTEv1.1 based on CrIS isoprene columns for 2014/15 (when GoAmazon and ACRIDICON campaigns are available);
    Conduct sensitivity optimizations to quantify the impact of the inversion setup, the chemical mechanism (OH recycling), and the top-down NOx fluxes from WP2;
    Assess consistency of top-down estimates from Task 3.3 and from this task.

  • T4.2 Simultaneous use of CrIS isoprene and TROPOMI HCHO data (M39=>M48).
    Design a novel methodology for inferring VOC emissions based on the simultaneous use of HCHO and isoprene satellite datas;
    Use the full-chemistry model first, and next, given potentially important discrepancies between the constraints from HCHO and isoprene data (partly due to errors in modelled OH), vary the model boundary layer OH fields in order to minimize the overall model bias with both HCHO and isoprene data; Assess the sensitivity to the inversion setup and model parameters and estimate uncertainties;
    Evaluate the optimized biogenic VOCs against available measurements of isoprene over vegetated areas; Write peer-reviewed publication.
Deliverables
  • D4.1.1 – CrIS-based gridded isoprene emission datasets in the Tropics (M42)
  • D4.2.1 – Publication on top-down isoprene based on TROPOMI and CrIS (M48)
